Surviving Summer at Disney World

Disney World is buzzing with excitement this summer, with the opening of a new attraction Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, a brand new Encanto dance party, and the unique Dreams that Soar drone show. With so many families flocking to the parks, many of who aren’t used to Florida heat, it's crucial to stay cool and enjoy your adventure despite the Florida heat. Here are our top tips to help you survive the summer sun and have a magical time at Disney World.

Opt for a Lunch Reservation

Book a table service lunch reservation instead of dinner. This ensures a guaranteed break in an air-conditioned space during the hottest part of the day. It's a perfect opportunity to recharge midway through the park day. Also lunch reservations tend to be easier to land.

Use Disney Transportation when you can

Whether it’s their monorails, boats, busses or skyliners going between parks, or their unique transportation within the parks like Main Street vehicles and the train, it’s nice to save yourself some steps and refresh while in transit!

Stay Fresh with a Change of Clothes

The Florida heat can be relentless, so if you're planning to stay at the park all day, bring a change of clothes if you can’t go back to your hotel. If you have the option, returning to your hotel in the middle of the day can be a great way to refresh. Take advantage of the air conditioning or pool to recharge before heading back to the park in the late afternoon when it’s less sunny (did you notice I didn’t say it’s cooler haha).

TIP - If you’re going to stay out in the evening I enjoy bringing clean pjs for my kids to relax in non park clothes on the way home.

Cool Down with Fans

Stroller fans and personal cooling devices are essential. Stroller clip fans are particularly amazing for keeping the kids cool. While I’m still on the hunt for the best personal cooling device for me, any portable fan can make a big difference in comfort levels. I honestly just wish I could walk around with a personal AC unit that actually works haha

Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate

It's easy to get caught up in the excitement and forget to drink water. Keep yourself and your fam more hydrated than you think you need to be. We love taking advantage of the free ice water available at any quick service location. Just go to the pickup window and ask for as many cups of ice water as are in your party.

Sunscreen even when it’s cloudy

Don't skimp on sunscreen. Our favorite is Sun Bum, especially their face stick, but as long as you got it on you’re good. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gotten burnt on a cloudy day thinking I can’t possibly get burnt…this redhead was wrong 🙃 Reapply throughout the day to protect your skin from that wild Florida sun!

Pace Yourself and Enjoy

Disney World in the summer is full of excitement, but it's important to pace yourself. Take advantage of slower, air-conditioned, and indoor experiences to stay comfortable. With these tips, you’ll be prepared to beat the heat and have a fantastic Disney adventure.

Enjoy your magical summer at Disney World!
